We are seeking a collaborative individual with a passion for both research and teaching to contribute to the continued success, operation and development of Chemical Engineering 葫芦影业. You will play an integral part in increasing our well-established research activities in future-focused technologies preparing the next generation to play a key role in achieving sustainable manufacturing through our highly rated undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses. 

Our degree courses in chemical engineering prepare our students to take on the global challenges we face, such as climate change, and the delivery of sustainable water, energy, food and wellbeing. We are looking for someone whose track record demonstrates the potential for, or realisation of, internationally leading research in precision fermentation applied to cellular agriculture manufacturing. 

The post-holder will become a member of CARMA, an EPSRC funded Sustainable Manufacturing Hub on Cellular Agriculture Manufacturing, which has the vision to transform food production, to a sustainable model in which novel cellular agriculture manufacturing systems complement traditional food production. We particularly welcome candidates with expertise in precision fermentation and applied in one or more of the following areas:

  • Microbial bioreactor operation, and novel process development, including the use of waste feedstocks
  • Bioreactor design, build and operation, utilising multiscale fluid dynamics
  • Bioreactor in silico multiscale modelling of fluid dynamics and thermodynamics
  • Bioprocess in silico modelling
  • Interface and circularity between animal cell culture and microbial culture
  • Upstream-downstream interface (harvesting; fluid dynamics and thermodynamics)
  • Strain development for optimising scaled production

A research focus with on techno-economic analysis, life cycle analysis and downstream processing will be less competitive. We encourage both wet lab and in silico research activities, including the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning. You will be a member of one of the Faculty of Engineering & Design Research Centres, as well as the Institute of Sustainability and Climate Change (ISCC). You will have access to students on PhD programmes such as the CDT in Sustainable Chemical Technologies.

Together with a full CV, please provide two statements, each of up to two pages:

  • A research statement which should include your vision and plans including an outline of how you will establish independent research 葫芦影业. Your research statement needs to outline your plans and intentions for research activity and grant capture over the coming five years. This document will be treated in the strictest confidence and with full respect for ownership.
  • A teaching and EDI statement. This document should outline your teaching vision and plans. Please also explain how your experiences and qualifications give you the knowledge and skills to teach across the breadth of core (bio)chemical engineering in our taught degrees and how you would contribute. Please describe how you incorporate principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion into your daily activities, especially when training and working with students and researchers. Please also outline how you have contributed to creating a positive, respectful, and collegiate environment for all staff and students.

Both documents are mandatory components of the selection process, without which we will be unable to progress your application.

You will be expected to undertake personal tutoring of some students as part of the role and will be responsible for assessment of elements of our programmes.

We are seeking two dynamic and proactive Project Coordinators. To support the GW-SHIFT and UK-HyRES programmes. These programmes aim to connect shared partners across the growing hydrogen ecosystem and help the push to net zero targets.

The roles will be key in providing coordination support to all the activities of the programme including marketing & communications, agenda setting & minute taking, setting up funding review panels and monitoring outcomes. Core responsibility will be to ensure the smooth running of key activities, meetings and events. 

Our ideal candidate will have

  • Experience in a similar coordination role
  • The ability to work pro-actively, flexibly, occasionally to tight deadlines and excellent communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience of maintaining clear and accurate records and creating reports from the data
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills along good team working
  • Experience in marketing and communications activities

Further Information  

This position is offered in a full time (36.5 hours per week) fixed term basis with an expected end date of 31 December 2027 for GW-SHIFT and 31 May 2028 for UK-HyRES. On a hybrid basis with 2-3 days based on the 葫芦影业 Claverton Campus in our co-located Hydrogen Hub offices. There is an expectation to attend events across the UK where necessary.
